Tim and I attempted to spend Friday night at Chateau Ava!on to celebrate our first anniversary (3/20). We were looking forward to it, but the stars were not aligning for us.
We checked in around 4:15p. We stayed in their Castaway Isle room. It's pretty cool. You sleep in a "shipwreck." It was a makeshift ½ boat that you climbed some narrow stairs to get to. They have a jacuzzi tub/shower sitting in the middle of the room under the boat. The did have a sink and a toilet in a separate area.
There is no restaurant, but they have appetizers and alcohol that you can have delivered to your room. Anyway, we were scheduled for a couples massage at 6p. 6p came and went with no phone call to let us know the masseuses were ready for us. We called down to the front desk and they said they didn't show us to have a massage. WHAT!!! I had confirmed just the night before. They called over to the massage place and got two people over to the hotel for our massage which now took place at 7p. The massage was great!
We go back to our room and start filling the jacuzzi tub. Yep, it was stuck on shower mode. One minute there was water pressure, the next, none. We spent 10 minutes trying to get it unstuck from shower mode. Voila! Finally. So, we had our appetizers (line garlic grilled shrimp and a fruit and cheese tray) and sparkling cider while sitting in the tub. That was pretty cool.
We had rented 'The F!ghter' and were getting ready to watch it, but all we heard was the music soundtrack coming from the TV. We messed with the remotes for an hour before calling the front desk to have them come check it out. Guess what....no speaker wires apparently.
This was about 10p and we decided that we would just cut our losses and go home. As we were checking out the hotel did comp our food and beverages. They said we would get a refund for our room (it was pre-paid) and give us another night for free as well. As of this posting we have not seen the refund or heard anything else about the comp night.
